We're grateful you've found your way to Alabama Adult & Teen Challenge. Whether you're searching for help with addiction, looking to support our mission, or exploring ways your church can partner with us, you've come to the right place.

For over 50 years, we've been doing whatever it takes to put hope within reach for men and women struggling with life-controlling problems across Alabama. This is our story—and it could be the beginning of yours.

Our Mission: Breaking the Bonds of Addiction

Alabama Adult & Teen Challenge is a faith-based addiction recovery and Christian discipleship program serving men and women throughout Alabama. We provide a safe, loving environment where individuals can receive the holistic care and long-term support necessary to break free from addiction and discover purpose through Jesus Christ.

Our approach goes beyond treating symptoms. We address the spiritual, emotional, and practical roots of addiction through comprehensive Christ-centered care that transforms lives from the inside out.

Our Story: Part of a Global Movement

In 1958, one man started what would become one of the oldest, largest, and most successful addiction recovery programs in the world. David Wilkerson began Teen Challenge International as an outreach to drug addicts and gang members in New York, writing the bestseller The Cross and the Switchblade to detail his experience.

In the decades that followed, Teen Challenge evolved into an international faith-based drug rehabilitation program with one of the highest success rates in the world. Today, over 1,100 Teen Challenge centers worldwide help tens of thousands of people each year.

Alabama Adult & Teen Challenge continues this legacy right here in our state, bringing proven, faith-based recovery to communities from Central Alabama to the Gulf Coast.

The Crisis We're Fighting

Addiction has taken captive over 40 million Americans. It's an epidemic everywhere—destroying lives and devastating families.

Nine out of ten addicts are not seeking treatment or haven't found it. That's 9 out of 10 people struggling with one of the world's most debilitating epidemics, living without help or hope.

Today alone, 125 Americans will die from their addiction.

But there is hope. And we're committed to making sure that hope is within reach for anyone who needs it.

How We Help: Our 12-Month Program

We take a comprehensive, faith-based approach to addiction recovery. Our 12-month residential program includes:

Spiritual Development

Daily prayer and Bible study, regular chapel services, and Christ-centered discipleship that addresses the spiritual roots of addiction. We believe true healing and lasting transformation come from an intimate relationship with Jesus, grounded in His Word.

Therapeutic Support

Individual therapy, group counseling sessions, family therapy, anger management training, and conflict resolution skills. Our caring staff walks alongside participants every step of the journey.

Life Skills Training

Participants develop personal responsibility, healthy coping mechanisms, and practical skills for managing life's challenges without turning to substances.

Vocational Training

Real work experience through our micro-enterprises—ATC Graphics, ATC Lawn Services, and ATC Thrift Store—prepares participants for employment and financial stability after graduation.

Extended Family Support

We create a community of meaningful relationships that continues long after the 12-month program ends. Participants gain an extended family committed to their success.

Our Locations: Serving Alabama Statewide

We operate four residential recovery centers across Alabama, ensuring hope is within reach no matter where you live:

Men's Centers:

  • Lincoln (Central Alabama): Our flagship facility with 60 beds and ATC Graphics on-site
  • Selma (West Alabama): Rural setting serving 30 men in a peaceful environment
  • Bay Minette (South Alabama): Gulf Coast location serving 30 men, wheelchair accessible

Women's Center:

  • Hayden (North-Central Alabama): Alabama's premier women's recovery facility serving 40 women

Our administration office in Lincoln coordinates operations and admissions for all locations.

Our Results: Transformation That Lasts

The proof of our program's effectiveness is in the lives transformed:

  • Over 80% of our graduates remain addiction-free and reconnected with family
  • Many graduates obtain full or part-time employment
  • Countless families report experiencing healing and restoration
  • Former participants return as staff members, paying forward the freedom they received

These aren't just statistics—they're real people discovering freedom, purpose, and hope through Christ. People like James Hughes, who went from 14 years of drug abuse and imprisonment to serving as Program Director at our Bay Minette center. Or Ashley Moore, who walked in "living in pure deception" and now has an amazing job helping others find freedom.

Their stories—and hundreds more—prove that complete restoration is possible.

1. Connecting with Jesus ChristTrue healing comes from an intimate relationship with Jesus, grounded in His Word.

Not all addiction recovery programs are created equal. While traditional treatment centers focus primarily on behavioral modification and symptom management, Alabama Adult & Teen Challenge takes a different approach.

James Hughes knows what it feels like to hit rock bottom. After a 14-year spiral of drug abuse, multiple arrests, and imprisonment, James found himself with nowhere else to turn. The choices that once seemed manageable had destroyed relationships, stolen his freedom, and left him hopeless. But God had other plans.
